We’re looking for a Senior Editor for a Long Term Contract!

As we ramp up for additional lesson content creation in-house, we’re looking for another editor to join our small but mighty Chicago-based content team on a long-term contract basis to take ownership of writing, editing, and managing the development of that content.

Here’s who we’re looking for:

You are passionate about education and entrepreneurial in spirit. You’ve been a teacher and a curriculum developer with a specialization in ELA. You are very comfortable with technology and interested in building technology that really works in the classroom. You have a demonstrated ability to work on many different projects simultaneously (think working on five projects in one day) and to change priorities quickly according to business needs.

If you were working for us, here are some of the things you would have done last month:

  • Written resources to help teachers use our lessons most effectively and edited your coworker’s work on the same kinds of resources
  • Developed standards-based rubrics to assess students’ work on research projects
  • Developed standards-based rubrics to assess students’ work on research projects
  • Edited direct instruction skills lessons to make them more precisely aligned to grade-level standards
  • Edited ELD support resources for ELA, math, and social studies to match guidelines and student needs
  • Created a resource for school districts in another state to understand how ThinkCERCA’s product aligns to their standards
  • Reviewed a coworker’s work on test prep resources for teachers and students for copy edits and content appropriateness
  • Used content, standards, and product knowledge to help our support and success staff (our public face) answer questions quickly and correctly while they’re in front of teachers and students

Here are some skills and qualifications we’re looking for:

  • 3-5 years of experience in a classroom, ELA
  • High level of expertise in CCSS or related state standards. Experience with NGSS, C3, TEKS, or other standards frameworks also a plus.
  • Proven ability to communicate clearly and effectively to a variety of audiences and in a variety of forums (for example, you can write a clear and concise instant message to help our support team discuss a perceived error in a lesson; you can have a collaborative and constructive discussion with the director of content to solve for resource constraints on a project; and you can write an email to a freelancer to address a repeated issue in their work)
  • Proven ability to write and edit curricular content, incorporate editorial feedback into your work, and provide clear and constructive feedback to coworkers and freelancers
  • A strong desire to learn about and with the content team and the company at large (we are an education company, after all)
  • A strong ability to analyze a complex situation, clarify the needs, and collaborate with others to find the most effective way to address those needs
  • An ability to help set priorities and reasonable deadlines for work given business needs and resources and to work to meet all commitments
  • Strong computer skills with a proficiency in Google Suite and Adobe Acrobat Professional; comfortable learning our in-house CMS
  • Have worked for a major publisher or vendor as a content developer and are familiar with publishing processes and workflows
